Although he is too old to give judo lessons himself, he attends classes so that he can ensure that the rules are not violated. He also serves as a judge when there is a conflict between the mentor and the apprentices.

Just as traditional as his son, he is however more tender with the students even if he knows how to be authoritarian and severe.

In Amane's route, Shuuji confided to him some embarrassing things about the evolution of his relationship with Amane. In response, the dean (happy and smiling) asks Shuuji to take good care of his granddaughter./
