The Pontiff of the Canterbury kingdom and ostensibly its ruler. Despite his youthful appearance, he has mastered the art of manipulating others for his own ends. 

 Pre-Catastrophe, he was Sumeragi Yuuya. A prodigy who mastered the concept of astrophysics before he was 12, he was handpicked by the Japanese Government to join the research team headed by Ouka. 

His youth and inexperience made him the least prepared to mentally cope with the fallout. In the early years of Canterbury's founding he relied on his first apostle Edward to build the foundations of the kingdom. Edward proved too talented and perceptive; he foresaw what would become of Canterbury and raised a rebellion against the Four Gods. Without a means to nullify immortality, Edward's rebellion was crushed. 

Disheartened by the rebellion, Sumeragi departed Canterbury and wandered what was left of the world. Eventually he met his wife and stayed with her until she died of old age. This gave him the resolve to aid his compatriots in their attempts to restore the world to its pre-Catastrophe state.

Sumeragi unlike his compatriots does not fight his foes directly. Instead, he shares his divine strength to trusted soldiers, and later the mass-production model of the Planets. His talent as a puppeteer of military robots is unmatched, combined with his ability to share his powers more efficiently than his peers. /
