A scion of the Amatsu whose bloodline is strong, he is Ouka's apostle and incredibly gifted at research. Despite his abilities, he is neither arrogant nor ambitious. If there is a flaw in this exceptionally talented individual, it is his desire to form true friendships with others.

He is betrothed to Rina as per the long-standing custom of the Amatsu and Kirigakure clans. Although he does not share her absolute devotion to him, he is happy with his arrangement and will go ahead with the wedding ceremony when the time is ripe.

 Despite his prodigious talent at research and supporting his fellow Paladins from the rear, Syu wants nothing more than to fight with his fists at the front lines. A classic case of personal desire completely at odds with natural talent, his frustration threatens to boil over as the struggle between the Godslayer and the Gods reaches its climax.

When he defends a dying Rina from Jace with his bare hands, he seizes the opportunity to fulfil his lifelong desire even though he is fully aware he is no match for Adler's Zodiac in hand-to-hand combat. Although he is telling the truth when he says he needs no excuse to use his fists to protect his fiancee, it appears that motivation is secondary to his great desire to settle conflicts like a man.

His powers allow him to manipulate the elements and more through his manifested magic circles. Years of living together with Rina have developed an almost telepathic understanding between the two on the battlefield. In addition, he is also talented at commanding machines although not in the same league as Sumeragi. /
