The mother of Haruta, she educated her son alone in Indonesia where she worked as a Japanese-Indonesian translator. She died a few years ago because of a fatal illness just before the arrival of Haruta in Japan.

She was Michinori's little sister and has always been in love with him and was the childhood friend of her brother's current wife. Even though her friend learned the bond they had and the children they had from this affair (Haruta and Saya), they remained friends.

Her friend has never been angry that Yukariko slept with her husband because she knew the loving feelings she felt for him. Her friend even had secretly arranged meetings that Saya could visit Yukariko and Haruta./
