The Tengu mountain people are rumored to live long and possess magical power enough to jump over the hills. A series of mysterious deaths occurs at the mountain people village. These events intertwine fates of two people. The first is a villager Ayahiko who gets preceded by his younger brother as the head of the family and thus has a freedom of action wandering with his dog able to spot monsters.
